Fine motor skills can be a pain in the butt to work on… who wants to use beads or fruit loops or place small pompoms onto glue drops?
But, one of my favourite ways to work on fine motor skills is with lacing cards.
Hazel got some for Christmas last year and they have been in heavy rotation since then. Today was the first day that Jenni sat with me to do a bunch correctly. She’s been playing with them and lacing however she wants, but we switched it up today with instruction. This means we also worked on the concept of “next” and remember sides.
Jenni did well and loves verbal confirmation for what’s she’s doing. This is very different from Hazel!
Maybe, we’ll have timed races in the future!
